From the Red Centre to the bush and the beach, Australian roads are a whirlwind of incredible and impressive sights and adventures. Travelling by car is one of the best ways to see all the sights that make Australia such a popular destination. However, these road trips shouldn’t be done on a whim, as there are so many things to see and do, you don’t want to miss a single thing. This blog will be all about how to plan the best Aussie road trip.

Look at Destinations
There are plenty of different destinations located throughout Australia, and it all depends on the types of sights you want to see. You could fancy a red desert break, coupled with impressive gorges, sandy spots, and beautiful reefs. In this case, Western Australia is the perfect place for you! You might want endless white sand, beautiful bush, and the occasional island, with plenty of parties. This means it’s time to head to the east coast. Or, you might fancy an island adventure that has bush on one side and enviable coast on the east. In this case, head to Tasmania! Each state and within Australia has its own incredible destinations and locations, so have a look at what is on offer and go from there.
Plan Your Stops
Each road trip has plenty of spots to stop at. Get ahead of the crowd and plan out where you want to stop and what you want to see. You may want to do a shorter distance trip with more stops and time at each location, or you want to simply see it all.
Pack The Right Gear
You’ll need walking boots, clothes, and plenty of swimmers no matter where you go! Make sure you pack for the season for the type of trip you’ll be headed on. Try not to overpack, as hauling luggage across the country can be tiresome.
In Remote Locations, Book Ahead
Some destinations, like Sydney, for example, will have ample accommodation all year round. So you know that you probably won’t have to book ahead for your trip here. However, other destinations, like Alice Springs, for example, or a remote campsite in the WA desert, will need prior booking, particularly in peak season. Do yourself a favour and book ahead if you need a place to stay. There is nothing worse than turning into a hostel or campsite and finding out they have no beds for you!
Research the Local Laws
Australia is filled with some iconic sights. From the iconic Uluru to the Three Sisters and everything in between, your camera roll will be full by the time you leave. But, while you’re here, make sure to pay attention to any local and state laws that are in place. For example, if you visit Uluru, you’ll find that some sections of the rock are just to be seen and not photographed. This is due to it being a significant spot for the local Indigenous people. There are plenty of other rules and laws to abide by, including environmental ones, too. One way we love to remember these rules is by the saying ‘leave nothing but footprints and take only photos’. It’s a great way to appreciate the local beauty and ensure that it is unspoiled for any future visitors!
Embrace Everything!
This might be your first visit here or your fifth. But, one thing is for sure; Australia has plenty of culture and sights to see. Say yes to everything and embrace all that this beautiful place has to offer. We have wildlife unlike any other country on earth, and it’ll be fantastic for you to see as much as possible.
Your Aussie road trip will be a blast! We know that you’ll have a great time no matter what you do. Make sure to plan ahead and find out everything you want to do ahead of time so that you don’t miss out. It’s going to be an amazing trip no matter what you do and where you go.
