Head to the Beach with Dollar

Port Macquarie is home to some beautiful beaches; 17 of them to be exact! If you’re staying in town for even just a few days, we’d always recommend exploring the local beaches. 

Town Beach is one of the most popular beaches here. With beautiful sand dunes and rolling blue waves, it definitely has something for everyone. There’s an outdoor gym, skate park, colourfully painted rocks, and so much more. 

Another beach that is a perfect place for a day of relaxation is Lighthouse Beach. It’s located just seven kilometres outside of the city centre: the longest beach in the area, it’s a great spot for an afternoon walk. if you love surfing, we’d recommend this spot to try out, particularly if you’re at least an intermediary level. 

While here, head to the Tacking Point Lighthouse. This is the 13th oldest lighthouse in Australia, so it is worth a visit if you love to visit historic sites and learn about the culture of an area. Plus, it’s a great starting point to start the Port Macquarie coastal walk while you’re in the area. This walk takes you through several stunning locations, as well as historical points. 

If visiting through the winter months, keep an eye out on the ocean for any whale migration. The Humpback Whales are visible from the coastline, and it’s an exciting moment when you spot them as they journey across the Pacific Ocean.
