It’s likely you’ll want to make the most of the sunshine and spend as much time as possible exploring while on vacation. Thankfully your booking with Dollar means that you can get your car hire far quicker and easier, meaning less time signing paperwork, and more time on the road.

History and Culture in Perth

There’s plenty to see and discover while in Perth.

Fremantle Prison is a tourist attraction quite unlike any other. Since its opening to the public in 1992, Fremantle Prison is one of the most fascinating and significant attractions in the state and has been recognised on the World Heritage list since 2010. It is the largest convict-built structure in Western Australia and was a maximum-security prison up until its decommission in 1991.

For over 140 years, it served as one of the principal prisons in Australia, and with death row, solitary cells, and gallows, it’s also an uncomfortable, yet fascinating insight into an outdated form of punishment in Australia. We always recommend taking a tour while visiting Fremantle.

Another must-do while in Perth is Kings Park and the Botanic Gardens. With over 5 million visits per year, it’s clear to see why this park is the most popular tourist attraction in Western Australia. Stroll through the gardens and witness some of the flora and fauna that call this land their home: over 324 native plant varieties, 215 known indigenous fungi species and 80 bird species live here. Before leaving, climb the heights to Mount Eliza and enjoy a spectacular view of Perth from above.

Rottnest Island from Perth

Rottnest Island is just off the coast from Perth and is accessible via boat. Rottnest Island enjoys natural fauna and flora, thriving marine life, and many unique species that call the island their home. Rottnest Island is home to the happiest animal on earth, the quokka. The quokka is known for wandering around the island and making friends with visitors. As there are no predators on the island, the population of this marsupial has grown dramatically and led to them being friendly to humans. Make sure to say hello if you see one around and stop for a smiling photo or two!

Please remember not to feed the quokka or any other native animal to the island: these marsupials will come and say hello without any treats to bribe them.

You’ll thoroughly enjoy your time in Perth and its surrounding areas. From the quokka of Rottnest Island to the fascinating history of Fremantle Prison, Perth has something new to discover on every corner. And, thanks to your rental hire from Dollar, you can explore all the sights with ease while on vacation here.
