Car Rental Essendon Airport

Flying into Essendon Airport is an exciting time. From its rich history as Melbourne’s first airport and Australia’s second, it’s full of history yet holds immense excitement for the future. Since its privatisation, Essendon has become an exciting hub of growth, potential, and opportunity. You’ll notice this all as you pick up your Dollar rental car from Essendon Airport.

It’s likely you’re here for a city break; the Melbourne CBD is only a 20-minute drive away. Or, you’re wanting to venture further afield, with tourist hotspots of the 12 Apostles seemingly close by. However you choose to spend your vacation, you’ve come to the right place to start it.

Be prepared when packing your vacation that you take the risk of weather changes. The Melbourne area is prone to swift changes, and locals refer to it as having ‘four seasons in one day’. We would always recommend being prepared for any type of weather, even in a specific season, just in case.

Explore Melbourne with Dollar

Melbourne is a vibrant and bustling city. There is always something going on: it has a large event calendar that attracts all kinds of tourists throughout the year. We suggest you research ahead of your visit to take advantage of these events. They include the Australian F1 Grand Prix, Australian Open Tennis, Fashion Week, AFL Grand Final, the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Melbourne's Music Week, and the International Film, Comedy, Jazz, Fringe and Writer’s festivals to name a few.

Whenever you visit, you’ll be in for a great vacation, with Melbourne having incredible culture, food, and history to explore. Perhaps visit the National Gallery of Victoria: founded in 1861, it is Australia’s oldest and most visited art gallery. Immerse yourself in over 70,000 works that have over a thousand years in history. This gallery covers a huge range of artists and genres and regularly has new and exciting exhibitions. While entry is free to the main gallery, the exhibitions may be ticketed and come at a price point - we recommend you check ahead to see.

Perhaps when you’re finished admiring the artwork, you’d like to take a stroll through the Royal Botanic Gardens. Located close to the CBD, this huge park has over 8,500 species of plants. Take one of the many walks through and admire nature, or visit the Tropical Glasshouse and admire the colours and variety here.

The Great Ocean Road with Dollar

The Great Ocean Road is a famous road trip that features on many bucket list destinations, tour guides, and travel blogs.

It’s a two and a half-hour drive from Essendon Airport to Apollo Bay, which is the star attraction of the Great Ocean Road. Apollo Bay is home to the 12 Apostles which are huge rock stacks that emerge from the ocean below. They form part of Victoria’s dramatic coastline. Formed between 10-20 million years ago from constant erosion of the limestone cliffs, these rock stacks have become one of the most visited attractions in Victoria.

These rock stacks reach up to 45-metres high and are an impressive sight any time of day. However, if you want a dramatic photo, or to witness the change of colours as the sun changes, we suggest visiting at sunset or sunrise to make the most of the view.

Essendon Airport is a great place to start your Victorian vacation. From the exciting streets of Melbourne CBD to the road trip of a lifetime, it all starts from the moment you collect your Dollar rental keys.
